The Year 5 classes from St Mary's visited us on Monday and Tuesday (12th – 13th June) to take part in the Love of Reading Project in which they designed their very own comic books to take back to school!
The pupils produced two comic strips and turned this into a magazine. Year 5 had a fantastic day learning how to draw Marvel cartoon characters such as The Hulk, Spider Man, Batman and many more as well as taking part in aspirational talks about becoming a cartoonist.
Afterwards, all pupils went away with a copy of their cartoon magazine and their very own caricature. This is the first in a 3-part-session, as in July they will return to compose a piece of creative writing to accompany their work and all this will be merged to create their own stories. We shall then have a celebration day to reward pupils for their hard work on Wednesday, 19th July.
Year 9 also took part in the workshop and had a wonderful afternoon creating a rendition of their comic strip titled 'Rise of the Chicken Nuggets.'
