Primary School Festivals

Published on 24 October 2012

The first two primary school festivals of the year took place on Thursday, 18th October for Year 6 pupils and also on Tuesday, 23rd October for Year 5 pupils.

60 Year 6 pupils from Heald Place and 30 Year 6 pupils from Webster Primary School attended the first football competition of the year, with a team from each class split into an A, B and a C league.

Games were competitive and the competition was strong. In the A league, Webster Primary won both their game to be crowned as champions. With Heald Place, 6L and 6N holding each other to a draw, this meant that due to goal difference, Heald Place, 6N were crowned as runners up.

In Group B, there was a role reversal with Heald Place, 6L topping the group with 2 victories and Heald Place, 6N maintaining the second place they got in Group A. 6N finally got the group win in Group C after Webster and Heald Place, 6L played out a goalless draw in the opening fixture, 6N then went on to beat both teams 1-0 to take the title.

In the Year 5 festival, we were also joined by a class from Holy Name Primary School meaning that we had 4 teams in each group and just fewer than 120 pupils taking part on the day. Holy Name had an immediate impact as they won all 3 games in Group A scoring an amazing 11 goals and only conceding 1.

Webster took the runners up spot on goal difference to Heald Place, 5M. In Group B, Webster took top spot with 2 wins and a draw beating Holy Name in the final game to overtake them at the top. Heald Place, 5M and Heald Place, 5A finished 3rd and 4th respectively. Webster also managed top spot in Group C with the all girls team from Holy Name finishing in 2nd place on goal difference.

All the pupils had plenty of smiles going home as not only did they play in their games, but they also had coaching sessions from the Manchester Academy Sports Leaders. Teachers and members of staff from the primary schools were very impressed with how friendly the Sports Leaders were and loved that they had got everyone involved. We look forward to greeting pupils from Years 1 to 4 after half term.
