Sector Drop Week: Creative and Digital Media

Published on 04 December 2014

Monday, 15th – Friday, 19th December, 2014

The Employability Team are organising sessions (and house tutor activities) for students throughout the school, based on one of the fastest growing industry sectors in Manchester – the Creative Digital and Media sector.

This is the first sector of three that we will be focusing on throughout the academic year. The overarching aims of these ‘sector drops’ are to ensure that students are:

  • Made aware of realistic job opportunities within the Manchester area when they leave school/college.
  • Students are made aware of different pathway into jobs within the specified sector.
  • Students are aware of a transferable skill–set which will be reinforced to help support any future successes and career choices. To achieve these aims, there are several activities that we have planned to take place at various time during the week.

These are as follows:

  • Tutor time activities – house tutors will deliver a session to their tutor groups on three occasions during the week. These sessions will be provided by the Employability Team and will be simple 10 - 15 minutes tasks.
  • Allan Beswick, presenter of the BBC Radio Manchester Breakfast show will be speaking to Year 9 students as part of their English lesson on Monday 15th December.
  • 5 Year 10 students will be taking part in a Creative and Digital Media competition.
  • Trafford College will run an Animation master class with a selection of Year 11 students on Wednesday 17th December.
  • A Graphic Designer will be visiting the Year 10 Graphics class, for a question and answer session on Thursday, 18th December. There will be a number of other employment engagement activities / opportunities taking place during the week.
