A group of Year 7 pupils were selected to be part of the Mother Tongue, Other Tongue writing competition led by the Poet Laureate and Director of the Manchester Writing School at MMU, Carol Ann Duffy. 

On Monday, 17^th December, 2012, Manchester Academy held the NSPCC Number Day again which involved students participating in a fun Maths Number quiz as well as fundraising for the NSPCC.

Every student in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 (KS3) has been given a ‘Manchester Reading Miles Passport.’ This is to encourage them to read for pleasure.

Manchester Academy welcomed the writer, teacher and workshop leader, Dave Cryer on Tuesday, 7^th February.

The National Literacy Trust has launched the Reading Miles Global Challenge, a new competition for all UK schools that will run from 9th January to 16^th March 2012 and we’re taking part!

On Tuesday 1^st November, we celebrated National Family Literacy Day at Manchester Academy. Parents and carers of year 7 and 8 students were invited to join their children and participate in a range of literacy activities.

Manchester Academy was shortlisted for a national award (one of only a couple of schools in the country) for our progress with literacy in all lessons. The award is presented to the school that demonstrates a sustainable system for improving students' literacy levels.

This short film depicting the story of Simon Armitage's poem 'Hitcher' was made by three Year 10 students.
