Year 10 Visit Parliament

Published on 17 November 2014

On Wednesday, 5th November, a group of Year 10 students went to visit The Houses of Parliament to present their research findings from a local history study into immigration and Moss Side.

They were taken for a meal to Pizza Express by the Runnymede Immigration Education Trust. Following this they were taken to the Houses of Parliament where they presented their work to two other schools, three MPs, a BBC journalist, Feedback Films staff, the University of Manchester staff and board members of the Runnymede Trust.

Nicole Henry, Hibaq Nur, Shahid Sabbir and Sayid Habib deserve a special mention for their excellent presentations about their findings. All students represented the Academy in an absolutely fantastic light and were incredibly patient and resilient during the lengthy coach trips!

The work completed by Manchester Academy students as well as a film and photographs about the project will be available on the Runnymede Trust website soon – www.runnymedetrust.org.

Runnymede staff sent the following message: "Thank you so much for bringing your wonderful pupils to see us in London. I am so grateful to you and to all of your pupils as they were so well behaved and articulate - I am so proud of them!"

Myself and students would like to say thank you very much to the Runnymede Trust, the University of Manchester and all staff at Manchester Academy who helped to make this possible. Especially to Mr Farnell and Ms Morgan who endured the 12 hours on the road and kept smiling!
