Today our school welcomed disruption in an unapologetically loud and colourful celebration of culture and heritage

What is Culture Day?

Culture Day is an annual event at Manchester Academy where staff and students are invited to wear traditional dress from a country of their choice. The day is packed full of music, food, and fun! Everyone is welcome to celebrate, with special prises for our best dressed students.

The Day’s Events

Our brilliant team have worked hard to ensure this year’s Culture Day is as vibrant and unique as the school it takes place in. Here’s what happened:

  • ·        Indian Band & Staff Samba Band played music as students arrived
  • ·        Cultural Stalls, including henna art, a retro sweet shop, and photo booth
  • ·        Friday Prayer led by the local Imam
  • ·        Cultural Fashion Show and Manchester Academy Disco

Principal Mr. Eldon said: “It’s well known that Manchester Academy is a diverse school and it’s brilliant to see this reflected in each of our staff and students. The sounds and colours are wonderful, it’s a real celebration for everyone involved.”

Highlight Of the Day

The highlight of the day was the Flash Mob Dance, where staff surprised our students during their lunch period with a Greek dance performance.

Deputy Head Teacher and Lead Dancer Mrs McMillen said: “The day has been a huge success. Admittedly, I was a little nervous about the surprise performance, but the students loved it! I know our students, and myself included, have looked forward to this day all year!”

Making Manchester Magic

Manchester Academy’s Culture Day is linked to Rights Respecting Schools. We are raising money for UNICEF Charities, alongside our Academy Charities, including Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s. Our staff and students have had fun and for a good cause! Each day we strive to Make Manchester Magic.
