A Creative Journey into the World of Hockney

Photography Students Felt Inspired after trip to Factory International

Manchester Academy’s new GCSE Photography students had an amazing opportunity to visit Factory International, where they explored the work of David Hockney. The exhibition gave students a new perspective on photography and art, leaving them inspired and eager to create their own masterpieces.

Learning from a Professional Photographer

Before stepping into the exhibition. Students met a successful event photographer who shared her journey from college, to university, and into the industry. She provided valuable insights into the world of professional photography, offering tips on building a career in the creative arts.

One Academy student said: “It was interesting to hear her journey into the photography industry. It made me realise that a career in photography is possible if you work hard.”

A Brilliant Exhibition Experience

The exhibition was like no other. Instead of simply viewing framed photos on walls, the students were taken on a one-hour journey through Hockney’s life and work. The huge exhibition space was filled with projections, videos, and music.

Bringing Inspiration Back to the Classroom

Back at school, students are now working on their own ‘Hockney Joiners’, using photographs taken around the city to create unique image collages.

Staff at Factory International were impressed by the student’s enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. They have invited asked if the Academy would visit again – an opportunity the students are thrilled to have!

The Academy is committed to supporting students’ creativity, ambition, and future career. Both inside and outside the classroom.
